It's About You!

The BCM has many activities and events going on throughout the year, and we want you to be involved in the BCM! We can not do ANYTHING if people do not get involved! After all, we are here for you! So, whether it be in attending events, getting involved in leadership, or just giving a little service, we provide many different ways for you to GET INVOVLED!

Get Invovled Through Events

As long as school is in session, there is always something going on with the BCM! Typically, all events are open for anyone to attend, unless otherwise specified. Take a look to the right at the the latest events going on with with the BCM!

You will find that the events tend to range from Worship Services, to service projects, to meetings, to social events. We try to have a wide variety of events take place to fit and meet everyone's wants and needs. Feel free to attend any -if not ALL- the events listed unless specifications are presented (eg - Girls Night is for ladies only, Guys Night is only for men, some trip meetings are closed to those predetermined to go, ect.) We enjoy having as many people at our events as possible!

Events Service

Some of our events are more socially oriented events, while others events are about other people. Either way, they all require the service of fellow students. We are always looking for people to not only attend events, but help put them into motion. Here are a few events that are always in need of help:

  • Parents Night Out- Otherwise known as PNO, this babysitting service is designed to give local parents one Friday night out on the town by themselves.
  • Habitat for Humanity- Once a month, the BCM teams up with Habitat for Humanity to help build a home for a local family.
  • Getting Involved Through Leadership

    Council

Since the BCM is a student led ministry, student leaders are always in high demand among us. When it comes to the leaders at the BCM, the Council is at the top. This prestigious group does many things to make the BCM function including creating, planning, and coordinating every single event the BCM puts in place, organizing Discipleship Groups, teaming up with other service oriented organizations, and even handling mission fundraisers. Although there is much responsibility that comes with being on Council, the position does have other perks, including special Retreats specifically set aside for Council to relax and become focused, gaining a uniquely close knit group of friends to support and lean on, as well as a ton of laughter and good times!

Council selection takes place in an interview form every spring semester for the following school year. Thus, in Spring 2008, we will be interviewing for the 2008 - 2009 school year. You should hear about the upcomming interviews about a month before they happen. In order to interview, there are certain standards that must be met. The reasoning for the standards is grounded in the Bible that as leaders among the Body of Christ, we should be blamless and above reproach (Acts 6:3, Colossians 1:22-23, 1 Timothy 3:1-7). This does not mean that the Council members are perfect by any means, however, through Christ, the council is striving for the perfection that only Christ can give. Understanding that we are all human, this standard is set to ensure that the Council is striving for this Christ-like perfection. The standards state the applicant must:

  • be a follower of Jesus Christ and seeking a deeper relationship with Him
  • be a student at Eastern Kentucky University, maintaining a 2.5 GPA
  • be an actively involved student in the BCM with at least two completed semesters of college work by the end of the current Spring semester
  • be able to commit to and follow the Council Covenant
  • In choosing the council, the President will be interviewed a week prior to everyone else. The President will be selected by our Interns and Campus Minister with much prayer. The Interns, Campus Minister, and President will then interview the other council member candidates, pray diligently, and select the rest of Council as close to God's Will as possible. Take a look to the right to see who this years council members are.

    Other Leadership

One of the great things about the BCM is that you do not have to be on Council to hold a leadership position. There are many other roles that an individual can take. Just a few of these positions include the new Freshman Council, the International Student Committee, getting involved in the Tech Team, take leadership in an Intramural Sport, take charge in some decorating of social events, or help give input to any one of the committees. Bottom line, there are many places to take on leadership other than council. The key factor is YOU GETTING INVOLVED!
